Career Readiness and Postsecondary Opportunities

In accordance with Texas Senate Bill 2, our counseling department provides students and families with information each year on the importance of postsecondary education, career readiness, and workforce training opportunities.

Why Postsecondary Education Matters

Whether your goals include a 4-year university, community college, technical school, military service, or direct entry into the workforce, continuing education and training after high school opens doors to higher-paying careers, professional growth, and long-term success.

Career Readiness and Workforce Training

Texas students have access to a wide range of career and workforce opportunities, including:

  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs aligned with high-demand industries

  • Apprenticeships and certification programs that prepare students for immediate employment

  • Dual credit and early college opportunities to earn college credit while in high school

  • Military and public service pathways offering education and career benefits

My Texas Future

The State of Texas provides My Texas Future, an online resource to help students explore college and career options, training programs, and financial aid. Students can also create a My Texas Future profile to:

  • Save college and career searches

  • Track application steps

  • Learn about financial aid and scholarships

  • Connect with Texas colleges and universities

We encourage all students and families to visit www.mytexasfuture.org and create a profile to support postsecondary planning.

If you have questions or need guidance, please contact your school counselor—we are here to help you plan for your future!

Ask for credential wage information: “If I complete this specific certificate, what has been the average entry wage in Rockwall / our region?”
